Jordan Yerman
Cocaine is cheaper than beer
2009
photographed image
700x500
Methods/Technique/genre
Yerman has used a close up shot to express the context more effectively, it displays the items more effectively than a far shot, the use of rule of thirds creates an effective hierarchy to express the importance of the cash than the items around the wallet.
Description
Image displays a wallet with lots of cash, with a table with multiple drugs spread around it including a spoon which could be used to take the drug.
Context and ideas
The image express how cocaine and drugs are cheaper than alcohol, this is expressed through the wallet full of cash with drugs spread around the wallet
Response
For my series from this image I want to take the aesthetic of the close shot and express that through my series to effectively show the drug scene more in-depth and take out the background and ill relevant items.
Boogie
Drugs
Photographed Image
2865x2300
Methods/Technique/genre
Black and white photograph, close up shot, rule of thirds used effectively, focus on the solely on the subject in the centre of the image
Description
Image expresses someone consuming cocaine using a $100 bill snorting the drugs through the nostril. The multiple lines suggests that there is also other people also consuming, off a glass table effectively expressed in black and white. Black and white creates an effective contrast between the black glass table and the cocaine.
Context and ideas
Image expresses someone snorting cocaine, expresses how this is becoming more of an everyday thing in the society especially as it is more available and cheaper than alcohol, very self explained image.
ResponseFor my series I want to have an easy to interrupt image like the one above using the close up technique and contrast to outline my ideas effectively and be easy for the viewer to interpret it too.

Youth Smoking
Photographed Image
1200x968
Methods/Technique/genre
Black and white photograph, mid shot focusing on the girl in the centre using rule of thirds, the girl looking at the camera makes us interact with the photograph as if the girl is looking at us which makes it more meaningful.
Description
Image of a very young girl who is smoking, another girl with her and someone on a ladder in the background. Black and white image solely focused on the girl smoking, works effectively.
Context and ideas
This image expresses how young girl are starting to smoke which breaks so many rules as girls are not meant to be smoking and defiantly not at that age. The way she looks into the camera makes the viewer interact with the image more effectively and makes us feel what she is all through an image
Response
From this image for my series I want to express a strong idea which is easily readable like the image above, from a glance you can tell the context and ideas straight away which is an aesthetic and technique I want present in my series.
