I N D N 2 1 2Product Based Design

Development

Once my idea was finalized and had chosen the simple look I went back through my precedents and the project brief and I decided that my ideas was too simple, to create a more effectively aesthetic design with more character and individuality I decided to create my lamp from a fresh piece of log which had been cut for me. The log has its own character expressed through the knots and the way it is shaped, Once I had the wood I sanded it down to a nice finishing and then cut the wood into slices.

I then varnished the wood to give it a nicer aesthetic as well as help protect the wood as it was untreated. Once this is dry I will start to construct my lamp.

I laser cut acrylic to separate my the layers of wood with a 9mm gap, I chose clear acrylic to give the aesthetic of the wood pieces floating. The circle is for the metal rod which will contain all the electronics to run through and the first line is for the wires to run through and the second to contain 6 SMD LED to provide light

Once my layers were stacked with the acrylic in between my model looked like the image above, which then only left the electrics to install, the rod will provide movement and only 45 degrees either side so the form is not lost and light can be focused onto to items or if you are reading.
