Project One Part B - Creation

For my chosen motive I want to look at Autonomy and intervention, specifically looking at chemical reactions within our minds to create emotions as well as an abstract icon all expressed through my creation. I alway want to use nature as a theme as I want to use natural materials in my creation design such as wood and water I also want to recycle my materials to express how wood that once had a purpose can be reused to provide a function aesthetic again and shouldn't go to waste.

Precedents

I searched the internet looking for inspiration in forms of lighting and anything I found interesting which inspired me and helped me to generate ideas.

I liked this lighting device as I enjoy the aesthetic of the form, the single filament lighting which starts from the bottom and makes its way to the top while spiraling slowly works effectively, I like how the shape breaks standard conformity as it isn't just a square that stays constant, it slowly twists as it gets to the top.

I found this lighting device interesting as the abstract design becomes a focal point in any house, it instantly drew my attention, as well as looking effective it disperses light effectively in the house. The form is very ridged and sharp, good design.

I chose this for inspiration not so much because of the form but because of the materials used, for my design I want to have a natural theme looking at natural materials to create a simplistic form but also a nice aesthetic. Wood looks modern if used in the right context and in the image above it looks modern and the wood aspect looks even more effective.
I liked this design as the simplistic form is effective and looks nice on the wall, it looks modern even though it is so simple. The light is illuminated from the centre but I think it could be more effective from the centre also, but it is still an effective design.
I chose this lamp not because of the aesthetic but because of the function. Salt lamps are used for light illumination but also the relaxing effect it has on people using the light. Salt lamps sooth the mind and help to relax you using a warm light and the effectives that the salt crystal has, the orange light illuminated creates that relaxing effect. I want to to incorporate this into my design to give a nice aesthetic and relaxing aspect.
This is a little bit out of context as it forms as more of a iPod dock which plays music but I liked the shape and the way the soft white light illuminated from the top of the shape, construction and form wise its quite simplistic and the white finish looks modern and effective.
I liked this light display for the interaction aspects were when you touch the wall it lights up in that area, the design itself is simple but doesn't help for this brief as it is too large of a scale, but I liked the interaction.
I liked this indoor light because of the contrast between the linear square exterior shape contrasting with the circular balls containing the light. I like the sleek black finish with the aluminum strip in the middle splitting the design. Function wise it would effectively distribute light and illuminate the room nicely. Aesthetics wise it wouldn't fit my theme but I like the concept

These products may look cheap but I might base my idea around these as I want to create a lamp for the lounge which looks effective made from natural one piece of timber but it will illuminate a relaxing and soothing orange light and have a water feature with water that trickles the inside which soothes the mind and looks effective.

Ive used this image before as a precedent and I'm using it aging as I love it, the form, function and design are perfect. Illuminating a nice warm light this is perfect for your house and its inviting and aesthetically perfect. I choose this image as I want to create the same aesthetic with my design, specifically looking at the natural material aesthetic.
